Installing Oracle Golden Gate 12c in Silent Mode

No comments
With 12c Golden Gate Oracle had introduced the Oracle Universal Install(OUI) for installation of Golden Gate. In previous version of the Golden Gate we were simply unzipping the file and the software becomes ready to use.
But 12c onwards we will use runinstaller to install the OGG software.
OUI will help to keep uniformity across Oracle products.

In this post I will be discussing about Silent installation of Oracle 12c Golden Gate (OGG).

  • Download the appropriate  OGG software from Oracle as per operation system (Linux,HP,AIX etc.)

  • Unzip the software and go into the the extracted folder.  We can find the template response file(oggcore.rsp). Copy the response file and  edit the below parameter.

INSTALL_OPTION=ORA12c/ORA11g
ORA12c for installing Oracle GoldenGate for Oracle Database 12c and
ORA11g for installing Oracle GoldenGate for Oracle Database 11g

SOFTWARE_LOCATION=/u01/app/oracle/golden_gate

Location to install Oracle GoldenGate

START_MANAGER=true

Specify true to start the manager after installation else false.

MANAGER_PORT=7809

Any port number, default 7809. Only required if we are giving START_MANAGER as true.

DATABASE_LOCATION=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.3/dbhome_1

Location of the Oracle Database.Required only if START_MANAGER is true.

INVENTORY_LOCATION=/u01/app/oraInventory

Specify the location which holds the install inventory files. This is optional parameter.

UNIX_GROUP_NAME=oinstall

Group that should own the installation of Golden Gate.

Save the response file.

  • Run Installer in silent mode and pass the above create response file.
$ ./runInstaller -silent -responseFile oggcore.rsp

Installing Oracle APPS R12.2 step by step on Oracle Virtual Box(Creating Stage Area)- Chapter 6

No comments
In this post we are going to check the stage area version and going to build stage area. It will check if all the required zip files are downloaded and valid.

Make we have all the zip downloaded and placed at /stage.

Now we will unzip the startCD zip files.

After unzipping the above 3 zip files we will see a folder created with startCD name.

[root@funoracleapps stage]# ls -ld startCD
drwxr-xr-x. 5 root root 4096 Mar 27 08:14 startCD

Let's check the version of start CD.

Note: During installation rapidwiz might error with the unzip version if it higher than 5.5x.
The startCD provide us with correct version of the unzip. We will use same.

mv /usr/bin/unzip /usr/bin/unzip_orig
ln -s /stage/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz/unzip/Linux_x64/unzip /usr/bin/unzip

Check version
unzip -version

We will build stage now which will automatically take care of all unzipping all other zip file and checking its integrity.

Go to below directory and run buildstage.sh

[root@funoracleapps bin]# pwd
/stage/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz/bin
[root@funoracleapps bin]# ls -ltr buildStage.sh

-rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 17325 Jan 20  2016 buildStage.sh

Press Enter

Select Option 1

Select option 2 as we are using Linux.
It was ask for the directory containing all the zip files.

Running command:
/stage/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz/bin/../jre/Linux_x64/1.6.0/bin/java -classpath /stage/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz/bin/../jlib/emocmutl.jar:/stage/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz/bin/../jlib/ewt-3_4_22.jar:/stage/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz/bin/../jlib/share-1_1_18.jar:/stage/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz/bin/../jlib/jnls.jar:/stage/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz/bin/../jlib/ACC.JAR:/stage/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz/bin/../jlib/netcfg.jar:/stage/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz/bin/../jlib/ojdbc14.jar:/stage/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz/bin/../jlib/OraInstaller.jar:/stage/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz/bin/../jlib/java oracle.apps.ad.rapidwiz.util.StageBuilder /stage/startCD/Disk1/rapidwiz/bin Linux_x64 Linux_x64

Installing Oracle APPS R12.2 step by step on Oracle Virtual Box(Configuring OEL for Oracle Apps R12.2)- Chapter 5

No comments
In previous post we have learned to installed OEL. Now we will be configuring/making ready our Linux System for Oracle Apps R12.2

Installing Guest Addition and update our system. These are optional steps which I am performing to make the navigation from host easy and system stable.

Click on Devices and Select Insert Guest Additions CD.

Click Ok and it will open terminal and run Guest Additions.

Once Completed hit enter and restart the system.
Then open terminal and execute yum update and it will update the OS and libraries.

Oracle Apps R12.2 pre-req install steps.

Check for per-requisite  rpms and libraries. I will use automatic method (yum) as below for checking and installing required rpms for Oracle Apps R12.2. It will also create user oracle and applmgr.

Make the following changes to yum.repos.d :

Install the rpm using public-yum:

1. As an authorized user (such as root), retrieve the file that configures repository locations:
# cd /etc/yum.repos.d
# wget http://public-yum.oracle.com/public-yum-ol6.repo

With Oracle Linux 6 installation there would be defualt file present. Backup that file and download new as per above command.

For Oracle Linux 5, users should replace ‘public-yum-ol6.repo’ with ‘public-yum-el5.repo’ above.

2. Using a text editor, change the field ‘enabled=0’ to ‘enabled=1’ for the repositories corresponding to the machine’s operating system while also enabling the ‘addons’ channel. Here’s an example of a repo file’s entries:
[ol6_latest]

name=Oracle Linux $releasever Latest ($basearch)

baseurl=http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleLinux/OL6/latest/$basearch/

gpgkey=http://public-yum.oracle.com/RPM-GPG-KEY-oracle-ol6

gpgcheck=1

enabled=1

[ol6_addons]

name=Oracle Linux $releasever Add ons ($basearch)

baseurl=http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleLinux/OL6/addons/$basearch/

gpgkey=http://public-yum.oracle.com/RPM-GPG-KEY-oracle-ol6

gpgcheck=1

enabled=1

[ol6_UEK_latest]

name=Latest Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel for Oracle Linux $releasever ($basearch)

baseurl=http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleLinux/OL6/UEK/latest/$basearch/

gpgkey=http://public-yum.oracle.com/RPM-GPG-KEY-oracle-ol6

gpgcheck=1

enabled=1

3. Install the R12 pre-reqs using below command

yum install oracle-ebs-server-R12-preinstall.x86_64

Make sure internet connection is working fine. Once the pre-reqs are installed. We can verify the users.

[root@funoracleapps log]# id oracle
uid=54321(oracle) gid=54321(oinstall) groups=54321(oinstall),54322(dba)
[root@funoracleapps log]# id applmgr
uid=54322(applmgr) gid=54321(oinstall) groups=54321(oinstall)

Add appplmgr to dba group as well.

[root@funoracleapps log]# usermod -aG dba applmgr
[root@funoracleapps log]# id applmgr
uid=54322(applmgr) gid=54321(oinstall) groups=54321(oinstall),54322(dba)

Change the password for oracle and applmgr user.

4. Check the swap Memory. It should be 16 GB. I have provided 20GB.

[root@funoracleapps ~]# grep SwapTotal /proc/meminfo

SwapTotal:      20479996 kB

5.  Make sure below values are setup in configuration files.

/etc/security/limits.conf:
---------------
 * hard nofile 65536
 * soft nofile 4096
 * hard nproc 16384
 * soft nproc 2047
 * hard stack 16384
 * soft stack 10240

6. Link to Motif library in Oracle Application Server 10.1.2

unlink /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6
ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/libXtst.so.6.1 /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6

[root@funoracleapps ~]# ls -ltr /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6

lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 16 Feb 21 11:57 /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6 -> libXtst.so.6.1.0

[root@funoracleapps ~]# unlink /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6

[root@funoracleapps ~]# ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/libXtst.so.6.1 /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6

[root@funoracleapps ~]# ls -ltr /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6
lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 29 Mar 27 07:57 /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6 -> /usr/X11R6/lib/libXtst.so.6.1

7. Set your inventory location under /etc/oraInst.loc as
inventory_loc=/u01/oracle/oraInventory
inst_group=dba

[root@funoracleapps ~]# cat /etc/oraInst.loc
inventory_loc=/u01/oracle/oraInventory
inst_group=dba

[root@funoracleapps u01]# mkdir -p /u01/oracle/oraInventory
[root@funoracleapps u01]# chmod 755 -R /u01/oracle/oraInventory
[root@funoracleapps u01]# ls -ld /u01/oracle/oraInventory
drwxr-xr-x. 2 root root 4096 Mar 27 08:03 /u01/oracle/oraInventory

Change Permissions to oracle
chown  -R oracle:dba /u01/oracle/oraInventory
chmod -R 777 /u01/oracle/oraInventory
